A worker uses a sledgehammer to break apart the outer layer of chimney brick.

Crews at 635 Cleveland Street dismantled the outer brick of the building’s chimney, revealing a hidden layer of the structure’s original brickwork. Using sledgehammers and drills, workers removed non-original outer layers of brick that had been added during later modifications.

The original bricks beneath offer a glimpse into the building’s 1960s construction methods. This helps guide future design and material decisions as the restoration continues.
