Lath and Plaster Wall Removal Continues on the Second Floor of the Brown Brothers Building

Brown Brothers second-floor wall demolition in progress.
Crews use sledgehammers to break through plaster, revealing the wood lath beneath.

Removal of the second-floor lath-and-plaster walls continues inside the historic Brown Brothers Building as interior demolition progresses. These wall systems—commonly used in buildings constructed before the 1950s—were formed by applying layers of plaster over thin wood strips known as lath.

As sections are taken down, portions of the building’s interior framing are becoming visible, allowing crews to better evaluate the structure. The ongoing removal of these older wall systems helps prepare the second floor for the next phase of restoration.
