Following Groundbreaking, Demolition and Site Clearing, Latest Construction Phase Moves Below Ground for New Utility Infrastructure
Heavy equipment is now cutting into Garden Avenue as construction advances on L. Ron Hubbard Hall, marking the latest visible progress since the project broke ground last month.
Since the August 1 groundbreaking, all existing buildings on the Hall site have been demolished, approximately 90 tons of debris removed and the entire site cleared. Now, before construction builds up, crews are digging down.
Utility work is now underway on Garden Avenue to locate existing underground infrastructure and prepare for the relocation and replacement of affected City utilities with new infrastructure.
A new Cleveland Street Alliance video documents that progression—from groundbreaking and demolition to the cleared site and work now moving below ground.
The footage follows crews as they saw-cut pavement, remove sections of roadway and expose existing underground utilities, while visualizations reveal the infrastructure beneath the street and the next phase of the project.
All of this is laying the groundwork for L. Ron Hubbard Hall, a 286,704-square-foot multipurpose event venue, together with a landscaped plaza that will add approximately 1.2 acres of new green space to downtown Clearwater.
The Hall is designed to accommodate charitable fundraisers, nonprofit events, school graduations, community banquets, educational seminars, cultural performances and other gatherings. Its adjoining landscaped plaza will add trees, gardens, pedestrian areas and gathering spaces in the heart of downtown.
In just over a month, the project has moved from groundbreaking through building demolition and site clearing to excavation and underground utility work on Garden Avenue. With the former buildings gone, the Hall site cleared and work now advancing beneath Garden Avenue, construction has entered its next phase.
Construction continues.
