629–633 Cleveland Street

The redevelopment of 629–633 Cleveland Street transforms a series of constrained and inefficient retail spaces into a cohesive and functional building—addressing long-standing limitations in scale, layout and usability.

Previously divided into narrow, fragmented units, the building struggled to support effective use of space. This project addresses those conditions through a comprehensive reconfiguration of both the interior and street presence—creating larger, more usable layouts while improving visibility and access along Cleveland Street.

A curved glass storefront—unique along the corridor—introduces transparency and draws attention from the sidewalk, while a recessed façade creates depth and invites entry. These changes establish a stronger and more visible presence along the street.

By combining smaller units into larger, more flexible spaces, the redevelopment aligns the building with how the spaces are intended to be used—while maintaining an active and engaging street frontage.

What emerges is not simply a renovation, but a complete transformation—redefining the building as a functional and visible part of the Cleveland Street corridor.

Architectural Design

Interior Reconfiguration

A central focus of the project is correcting the building’s original limitations in scale and layout.

Previously narrow and segmented spaces are combined to create larger, more functional environments capable of supporting a wider range of uses. This reconfiguration improves usability and flexibility across the building.

Storefront Transformation

The building’s street presence is significantly improved through a redesigned storefront.

A curved glass façade—distinct along Cleveland Street—creates a transparent and visually engaging edge, improving visibility into the space while drawing attention from pedestrians. The recessed entry condition further reinforces a sense of access and connection to the sidewalk.

Commercial Viability

Beyond architectural improvements, the project improves how the building functions as a retail space.

By correcting unit size and layout, the redevelopment allows the building to operate more effectively within the Cleveland Street corridor—supporting consistent use at the street level.

Project Impact

The transformation of 629–633 Cleveland Street resolves fundamental limitations in both layout and street presence.

By improving scale, visibility and usability, the project contributes to a more active and continuous Cleveland Street corridor.
