Crews Uncover Historical Safe During Renovation at 645 Cleveland Street

Rusted safe with dual knobs found during renovation at 645 Cleveland Street.
The historical safe discovered at 645 Cleveland Street likely dates back to the early 1900s.

Demolition crews working inside 645 Cleveland Street discovered a heavy, long-forgotten safe. Positioned near the center of the structure, the safe likely dates back to the early 1900s, although no record or documentation exists to identify it.

Crews note that the safe has no visible markings, model number or serial number, features that became standard after the mid-20th century. Its substantial weight required six people to move it.

The safe includes double-walled doors, a wood-lined interior, heavy-duty locking mechanisms and fireproof insulation. The safe’s origin remains a mystery—one more chapter in the building’s layered history.
