A Stucco Coat Is Going Up on the Woolworth Building’s West Wall

Fresh stucco is applied to the Woolworth building’s west wall.

On the west side of the Woolworth building, contractors have started installing a fresh stucco finish. Scaffolding was set up along the wall to allow safe access. Before application, crews removed imperfections from the exterior surface, ensuring it was flat and free of peeling paint or protrusions.

Expansion joints were installed to allow the stucco to expand and contract with temperature changes, reducing the risk of fractures. Reinforcing mesh was also embedded in the fresh stucco layer. This mesh strengthens the finish and provides long-term durability, helping the restored wall resist cracking as the building ages.
