The removal of the outdated elevator shaft at the Woolworth building was recently completed in two carefully executed phases, clearing the way for the next stage of restoration.

Specialized demolition crews first tackled the rooftop elevator room using precision equipment to dismantle metal elements while protecting the surrounding area. Once the upper structure was cleared, they proceeded to remove the masonry shaft itself, piece by piece. The completion of this phased demolition restores the building’s historic rooftop profile and opens the space for future upgrades.
