Crews Level and Begin Rebuild of Second Floor at Woolworth Building

At the historic F.W. Woolworth building, structural restoration is underway with the removal of the second floor, exposing the building’s framework. This step was necessary in order to inspect, repair and level the underlying supports before installing the new floor systems.

Once exposed, carpenters used hydraulic jacks to lift sections of uneven floor trusses into proper alignment. In areas where trusses were compromised, crews repaired or replaced the beams that secure them. Several severely bowed or damaged trusses were removed entirely and replaced with new, precisely fabricated wooden trusses to ensure structural consistency across the floor.

This foundational work is critical to the long-term stability of the building and marks a key milestone in restoring its structural integrity.
