At the Woolworth building, crews are preparing structural upgrades on the second floor. They have readied the wooden decking for a layer of concrete to cover the floor. Metal sheets were cut and screwed in to secure the edges around the structural beams and walls. Portions of the decking were removed and replaced with stronger wood to prevent leakage onto the first floor when the concrete is poured. Once installed, the concrete will form a reinforced surface that provides the second floor with solid separation from the ground level.
Decking is replaced to form a solid base for the concrete.
