Restoration crews at the F.W. Woolworth Co. building have begun removing inconsistent bricks where the building’s future sign will go. Working from a lift, teams are using a rotary hammer to remove a strip of brick above the storefront. The inconsistent bricks will be replaced with new ones to create a flat surface. This will allow the replacement bricks to be waterproofed and the sign to sit evenly on the façade, creating a cleaner, more integrated appearance that complements the building’s historic design.
