The East and West Stairwell Rebuild Is Complete at the Woolworth Building

The F.W. Woolworth Co. building reached a major structural milestone with the completion of two reconstructed stairwell shafts on the east and west ends. The original and outdated stairwells were fully demolished beforehand.

To ensure structural integrity, masons began by pouring new foundations for each shaft. Crews then laid concrete block from ground level to the roofline. The new shafts were completed with the installation of a reinforced bond beam at the top, which ties directly into the roof structure, solidifying each stairwell as a permanent and integral part of the building’s framework.
