Steel Framing Installed for a New Storefront at the Woolworth Building

As part of the ongoing renovation at the Woolworth building, the original storefront, found to be structurally unsound and historically mismatched, has been fully removed.

In its place, a new storefront system is being installed that blends historical accuracy with modern and code-compliant performance. The design includes key visual elements from the building’s original look, while making it code compliant.

Because of current code requirements and the need for hurricane-rated strength, steel framing must be installed first before any new storefront glass or doors can be put in place. These steel elements provide a rigid, secure base for the new storefront.

Contractors completed detailed measurements and fabrication of the steel components, and installation is underway. Once finished, the steel framework will allow the storefront to be firmly anchored with both beauty and structural reliability.
