Stripped to the Core: Woolworth’s Interior Demolition

Crews did a full interior demolition at the historic F.W. Woolworth Co. building on Cleveland Street. All partitions, drop ceilings, finishes and nonoriginal infrastructure were removed, exposing the original structural framework.

This blank slate offered a rare opportunity to rebuild with fidelity to the building’s historic form. Preservationists and engineers are now using the newly revealed conditions to guide design decisions for the next phase of restoration.
