Cleveland Street Welcomes Back the Iconic F.W. Woolworth Co. Sign

The F.W. Woolworth Co. replica sign now stands proudly over the restored storefront, reviving one of downtown Clearwater’s most recognizable historic features.

Crews began the sign installation by preparing the façade, filling holes, and applying a waterproof coating to protect and seal the signage area. This step created a durable surface for installation and safeguards the sign against moisture intrusion. With the surface ready, crews carefully positioned and secured every piece, spelling out F.W. Woolworth Co. just as it appeared on the building in 1928.

Each letter was crafted from 100% solid aluminum using a CNC cutting machine—an industrial tool that precisely cuts materials for clean, accurate detail. The letters were then bolted onto 1/4-inch aluminum panels, with each section weighing between 200 and 300 pounds.

This milestone not only restores a beloved piece of Clearwater’s retail history but also highlights the precision and craftsmanship that define the entire Cleveland Street restoration effort.
