Façade Cleared for Historic Sign Return

FW Woolworth
A construction crane lifts away the outdated remnants of the existing signage at the historic 1928 F.W. Woolworth Co. building.

Cleveland Street Alliance’s restoration crews have removed nonoriginal façade elements from the F.W. Woolworth building—modern additions that had obscured the building’s original 1928 design.

In its place, the landmark’s gold-lettered sign from the late 1920s is being meticulously recreated—restoring a defining feature of the building’s retail legacy.

This step marks the beginning of a full façade revival and will help return a vital piece of downtown Clearwater’s visual history to the street.
