Work is progressing at the historic F.W. Woolworth Co. building with the start of construction of the storefront soffit, the horizontal ceiling enclosures above each recessed storefront entrance.
Framing crews have begun installing a lightweight metal structure to form the storefront soffits above the recessed entrances. These soffits will be finished with dense glass, followed by a joint compound and paint to match the interior finishes and integrate with the larger renovation design.
The soffits provide a clean transition from the structural steel overhead to the pedestrian-level experience along Cleveland Street. As installation continues, these framed elements will contribute to the building’s restored symmetry and appearance.
Structural steel is cut to fit the soffit framework at the Woolworth building.
