Shoring Removed to Clear the Way for Structural Renovation at the Woolworth Building

Two workers detach shoring from exposed brick façade.
Workers prepare to detach steel shoring from the west masonry wall of the Woolworth Building.

Interior progress continues at the Woolworth Building as crews begin removing the temporary shoring systems that stabilized the first and second floors during early structural work. These vertical supports were essential throughout the construction of the new stairwell and elevator shafts, particularly along the west wall to ensure safety and integrity while other elements were reconstructed.

With the stair and elevator shafts structurally sound, the building no longer requires temporary bracing in those areas. Removal began on the second floor and is progressing downward in a carefully coordinated fashion to avoid disruption to newly reinforced sections.

Workers remove overhead supports on second floor of Woolworth interior.
Crews dismantle second-floor shoring inside the Woolworth Building, clearing the way for framing work.

This stage marks a pivotal transition from stabilization to full structural rebuild, clearing the way for framing elements to take shape. It also represents a visual turning point for one of Cleveland Street’s most recognizable buildings.
