Historic Wood Studs Restored Inside the Brown Brothers Building

Interior restoration continues at the Brown Brothers Building as crews carefully remove later modifications to expose and preserve the original wood framing. Working from scaffolding and at floor level, specialists remove fasteners and embedded materials from the historic studs, revealing the full extent of the early structural system.

Using angle grinders and hand tools, crews cut away metal connections and clear residual buildup from the wood, refining each timber for future restoration. This process allows the original studs, which remain in strong condition, to be retained rather than replaced, maintaining the building’s historic fabric while preparing the space for new systems and finishes.
