Elevator Pit Is Rebuilt Starting with the Foundation at Peoples Bank

Rebar framework is installed for the new elevator foundation at Peoples Bank.

As part of the structural upgrades to the historic Peoples Bank, crews have completed the reconstruction of the building’s elevator pit, which is an essential milestone in restoring its interior core.

The process began with a full demolition of the original elevator pit down to its foundation. Further excavation and reinforcements were done to support a new elevator design that meets modern structural and accessibility standards. A rebar frame was carefully formed in place and filled with concrete, ensuring the new elevator shaft has a solid, code-compliant base.

This work not only addresses key safety and structural requirements, but also clears the way for upper-floor office access, preserving the building’s mixed-use future while respecting its 1910 architecture.
