Stucco Comes Down: Exterior Demolition Begins at Peoples Bank

Crews have officially begun the exterior restoration of the historic Peoples Bank with the removal of its outdated stucco façade. Before any demolition could start, an extensive system of scaffolding had to be installed across the full exterior of the building to protect workers and the public during this intricate process.

Once the scaffolding was secure, crews made strategic cuts in the stucco and began chipping away at it with jackhammers. The material proved thicker than expected, requiring careful handling and extra effort to remove it while preserving the original masonry underneath.

Removing the stucco is a major milestone in the restoration journey. It brings the project closer to revealing the building’s original architectural identity and opens the door for historic rehabilitation work that honors its early 20th-century design.

As the layers come off, what is revealed beneath gives an intriguing glimpse into the craftsmanship of Clearwater’s past.
