First-Floor Doors Undergo Staining to Match Interior Trim at Telephone Building

Future interior trim color guides the staining process
Crews stain the first-floor birch doors at the Telephone Building to match new trim and finishes.

Restoration work continues on the interior of the historic Telephone Building, where crews are staining the first-floor birch doors. These doors will ultimately complement the new wainscoting and trim being installed in the common area, bringing warmth and visual cohesion to the space.

To achieve a high-quality result, each door is first sanded smooth and thoroughly cleaned to remove any residual dust that could interfere with the stain. Once prepped, the wood is hand-stained to match the surrounding trim tones. A clear protective topcoat will be sprayed on after staining to seal and preserve the finish.

This staining process is part of the detailed interior finish work that is bringing the 1915 landmark’s interior in line with its carefully restored historic façade.
