Mediterranean Revival Façade Tile Preparation Advances at the Peoples Bank Building

Crews at the Peoples Bank building are continuing their work to map out where the Mediterranean Revival–style terra cotta tiles will be placed along the east façade. To accurately replicate the 1920s tile design that once decorated the building, the team is marking where a small supporting ledge must be installed so the tiles will sit evenly against the wall. Because the terra cotta pieces are large, two to three inches thick, this ledge will help carry their weight and ensure proper alignment. Crews are moving along the east side of the building where the colorful tile pattern will extend across the structure and over the east entryway. This careful preparation is an essential step in restoring one of the building’s original architectural features.
