Mediterranean Tile Frieze Takes Shape Along the East Façade of the Peoples Bank Building

Tile specialists have advanced to installing the custom terracotta frieze along the east façade of the Peoples Bank building. The process begins with anchoring horizontal support tracks to the structure, allowing each handmade tile to be aligned, leveled and secured for long-term durability.

The decorative frieze reflects the building’s 1920s Mediterranean Revival transformation, when ornamental tilework, color and layered façade details were introduced to elevate its architectural presence. Crews are recreating this feature with individually crafted tiles, restoring a defining visual band that once wrapped the building and contributed to its identity along Cleveland Street.

As installation progresses, the façade begins to regain its historic depth and character—linking present-day craftsmanship with the building’s earlier period of architectural prominence.
