Rebuilding the North Wall of the Telephone Building

Two workers on scaffolding apply mortar and set new bricks along the rebuilt north wall of the Telephone Building in downtown Clearwater.

Masons apply mortar to new brickwork along the reconstructed north wall of the Telephone Building.

Restoration crews did a full reconstruction of the Telephone Building’s north wall after engineers discovered the original structure to be unsound. The effort included careful dismantling, temporary shoring and full rebuilding from the foundation up.

New steel columns, horizontal beams and diagonal bracing were added for stability. To maintain historical integrity, approximately 11,000 bricks were sourced and installed to match the original texture and bond pattern.

The reconstructed wall stands as both a structural solution and a faithful replication of the historic façade.
