Brown Brothers Building Interior Demolition Reveals Historic Newspapers

Historic newspaper uncovered and held during interior restoration.
Original newspaper sheets remain intact after decades within the structure.

The Brown Brothers Building becomes a time machine as interior demolition unexpectedly uncovers preserved newspaper sheets within the structure, offering a direct connection to the building’s past. Crew members carefully remove interior materials to reveal intact newspaper pages, including editions of The Clearwater Sun found nailed to the back of a door during an earlier phase of the building’s use.

Originally constructed in 1924 as the Jackson Building, the Brown Brothers Building has served downtown Clearwater for decades as a retail and social hub. These newly revealed materials provide a tangible record of that evolving history, captured within the building itself. Work continues as crews document findings and advance interior demolition in preparation for restoration.
