Panels of rigid foam board insulation are being installed on the second floor of the Peoples Bank building as part of the ongoing restoration, addressing challenges unique to historic construction. Older buildings were designed to breathe, relying on thick masonry walls rather than modern framed walls to manage heat and moisture. Rigid foam board insulation is well suited for Florida’s humid climate, creating a protective layer that helps shield interior spaces from moisture held in the masonry. This approach respects the building’s historic construction while adding discreet protection that supports long-term preservation.
