Interior Demolition Begins at Brown Brothers Building to Remove Non-Original Material

Non-original finishes are removed to expose structural framework.

Interior demolition is underway at the Brown Brothers building, marking the first critical step toward restoring the structure’s original 1924 character. Crews are focused on removing modern additions and non-original materials to reveal the building’s historic framework.

In the coming days, the team will begin the careful extraction of key historic features, including 24 original doors, 72 pieces of door casing and 24 transom windows. Each element will be systematically removed, labeled and preserved for later restoration.

This is no standard demolition—it is a deliberate architectural excavation prioritizing preservation through precision. By peeling back later modifications, the project paves the way for a restoration deeply rooted in craftsmanship and historical authenticity.

While still in the early stages, the work signals a clear intention: to return the Brown Brothers building to its place as a defining landmark of Cleveland Street’s historic fabric.
